The premiere of the documentary film "Real" by director and military veteran Oleh Sentsov was held at Kyiv's House of Cinema. The wide release of the film will begin on February 20.
"Real" is the fourth feature film by Oleh Sentsov, renowned for his film "Rhino" and a laureate of the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought from the European Parliament. The film was shot spontaneously in the summer of 2023 using a tactical camera. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the director joined the military and fought in the southeast.
Oleh Sentsov, along with his comrades, found himself in a trench where their BMP was hit. The camera, accidentally turned on, captured one and a half hours of the chaos of war, making it difficult to comprehend and even harder to influence.
"There is no beginning, no dramaturgy, no plot, no script. This film came about by accident during the counteroffensive in the summer of 2023 when intense battles were taking place every day. My GoPro camera accidentally turned on while I was checking it, recording for an hour and a half until the battery ran out. I only found out about this footage a few months later," Sentsov shared during the film presentation.
He added, "This is not a typical film, not a lyrical one."
"It's about ordinary people who make mistakes, sometimes fear, save their comrades, and give their lives for the country," the director concluded.
