President of Ukraine holds meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Mélanie Joly visiting our country.
The Head of State expressed gratitude to the Canadian government and the Canadian people for their strong support and assistance to Ukraine during the war.
“I highly appreciate the warm attitude of your society towards Ukrainians, towards our people who came to Canada. You help us not only on the battlefield but also financially, in the energy sector. I also want to note the political support of Ukraine, in particular at the United Nations,” Zelenskyy said.
Separately, the President noted the tangible defense assistance Canada is providing to Ukraine.
“Your support for the Ukrainian army is invaluable in these turbulent times for us,” the Head of State said. He also highly appreciated Ottawa’s decision to transfer Leopard battle tanks to our country.
During the negotiations, Zelenskyy briefed Joly on the priority needs of the defense forces of Ukraine. The parties exchanged views on further cooperation in the field of security and defense in detail.
The President emphasized the importance of achieving peace, which should be facilitated by the implementation of the ten points of the Peace Formula proposed by Ukraine. The Head of State informed the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada about the steps taken to implement the Peace Formula, and expressed hope that the Canadian side would support relevant initiatives, in particular, the holding of a global peace summit.
Zelenskyy also expressed confidence that the vast majority of the countries will support the resolution of the UN General Assembly, proposed to be adopted before the anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
The President and the Minister of Foreign Affairs exchanged views on the steps to be taken to speed up the reconstruction of the regions liberated from the aggressor, as well as on the issue of demining the territories where hostilities took place.
Particular attention was paid to the need to prosecute those guilty of the crime of aggression, as well as the work being done in this direction.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the Euro-Atlantic integration of our country.
