Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently conducted a series of important phone calls with regional and European leaders, focusing on intensifying sanctions against Russia and securing continued support for Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
In a conversation with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Zelenskyy highlighted the urgent need to increase pressure on Russia, stressing that there are no signs Moscow is seeking a peaceful resolution to the war. He thanked Greece and the entire European Union for the recently adopted 17th package of sanctions against Russia but emphasized that further measures are necessary—particularly targeting Russia’s energy and banking sectors, shadow tanker fleets, and calling for a further reduction of the oil price cap. Prime Minister Mitsotakis reaffirmed Greece’s commitment to supporting these efforts.
The Ukrainian President also underscored the critical importance of sustained assistance to Ukraine’s military, defense industry, and air defense capabilities, expressing gratitude for Greece’s readiness to provide aid. Zelenskyy invited Mitsotakis to participate in the upcoming Ukraine – Southeast Europe Summit, with the Prime Minister confirming his attendance.
Zelenskyy also spoke with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, where the two leaders discussed ongoing bilateral cooperation and progress within the Ukraine – Southeast Europe framework. Both presidents agreed to maintain close communication and set a schedule for further collaboration.
In a separate call, President Zelenskyy thanked Moldovan President Maia Sandu for her steadfast support since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. The leaders discussed expanding cooperation between Ukraine and Moldova in both bilateral and multilateral formats. Sandu accepted Zelenskyy’s invitation to join the Ukraine – Southeast Europe Summit.
Finally, Zelenskyy held talks with President of North Macedonia Gordana Siljanovska Davkova. They exchanged views on Ukraine’s diplomatic efforts aimed at securing peace and discussed coordinated steps toward European Union membership. Zelenskyy highlighted the importance of North Macedonia’s participation in the upcoming summit and expressed appreciation for the country’s ongoing support and international cooperation.
These diplomatic engagements reflect Ukraine’s efforts to solidify regional alliances, enhance sanctions pressure on Russia, and strengthen support for Ukraine’s defense and European integration ambitions.
