The support of the victims of the war, economic security and the recovery of Ukraine were the topics for discussion in Kyiv by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and the Prime Minister of Romania Nicolae Ciucă. The meeting was also attended by the Speaker of the Romanian Parliament Marcel Ciolacu and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Bogdan Aurescu.

Denys Shmyhal thanked the Romanian Government for joining efforts with the European Union aimed to establish and operate hubs in Romania for international assistance to Ukraine.

"We know that the people of Romania are feeling this pain and are standing by us in this battle. We value the assistance provided to the citizens of Ukraine who were forced to flee their homes through the aggression of the russian federation. Thank you for the good treatment of Ukrainian migrants," said the Head of the Ukrainian Government.

In addition, Denys Shmyhal noted that the parties are currently working together on a draft Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of social protection of children affected by hostilities. According to him, this memorandum will provide mechanisms and tools to support such children, as well as ensure their return to Ukraine after the end of active hostilities.

In the context of russia's blockade of Ukrainian ports in order to create a food crisis in the world, Denys Shmyhal and Nicolae Ciucă discussed the possibility of expanding the already established export corridors through Romania and using additional opportunities of Romanian seaports.

"In order to increase transit capacity between Ukraine and Romania, we would also like to consider opening the Dyakivtsi (Ukraine) – Racovăț (Romania) checkpoint as soon as possible and granting it the status of a freight checkpoint in the future," said Denys Shmyhal.
