HHLA Container Terminal Odessa (CTO) announced to establish a new subsidiary, Ukrainian Intermodal Company, to provide railway transportation for containers across Ukraine.


CTO is a member of the German logistics leader HHLA Group, based in Hamburg and operates the largest container terminal in the port of Odessa. The Company has been profiting from the Black Sea’s increasing global container traffic in the past years.

The HHLA’s container terminal is consolidating its leading position through new berths for mega-ships and a modular expansion concept. It is already fit for the largest ships currently navigating the Black Sea, with up to 10,000 standard containers (TEU). The multi-purpose facility is handling project cargo and grain too.

Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) is a leading European logistics company. With a tight network of container terminals in Hamburg, Odessa and Tallinn, excellent hinterland connections and well-connected intermodal hubs in Central and Eastern Europe.

In 2019, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) increased its Group revenue by 6.8 percent to € 1.38 billion (compared to 2018: € 1.29 billion). The Group’s operating result (EBIT) of € 222 million (previous year: € 204 million) grew by 8.8 percent.

A total amount of 7.6 million standard containers (TEU) were handled at HHLA’s container terminals in 2019. This is 3.3 percent more than in the previous year (7.3 million TEU). With a transport volume of 1.57 million TEU (previous year: 1.48 million TEU), HHLA’s Intermodal activities exceeded the previous year’s strong results by 5.7 percent. This result was driven by both railway and road transport.
