A plant capable of producing 1.2 million tons of cold rolled coils will be built in Ukraine by the steel producer Metinvest and the world leader in steel production technology Danieli.
Metinvest has formalized the construction project for a new cold rolled, galvanized and colour coated coil production plant at Ilyich Steel in Mariupol (Ukraine). Total investments will exceed one billion dollars and today the Group announced that it has signed a contract with the Danieli Group, the world's leading supplier of technology for the steel industry.
This is our biggest construction project for the next five years. With this completely new technological chain, Metinvest will be able to achieve world-class quality in all stages of production, from semi-finished products to coated rolled products, which will also be exported to the CIS countries and Europe.
Yuriy Ryzhenkov, CEO of Metinvest
The project involves the construction of a continuous cold rolling mill combined with a pickling line, as well as three cutting-edge lines for zinc, zinc aluminum and polymer coatings.
In 2025, after the completion of the first phase of the project, the rolling mill will be able to produce approximately 1.2 million tons per year of highly competitive cold-rolled and cold-galvanized steel, as well as polymer-coated steel. The production capacity will include over 400 thousand tons of cold rolled coils, over 600 thousand tons of galvanized coils and more than 140 thousand tons of polymer coated coils.
The technology we are implementing in Mariupol is the most advanced and environmentally friendly available on the market today. This intelligent automated complex will be one of the few in the world that combines high product quality, low production costs and low emissions.
Giacomo Mareschi Danieli, CEO of Danieli Group
The new plant will feature solutions that ensure that emissions of harmful substances remain 1.5-3 times below the maximum permitted standards in Ukraine.
