The Federal Polytechnic University of Zurich (ETH) is screening students from certain countries to eliminate the risk of espionage, according to Worldradio.

The involved countries are Russia, Iran, and particularly China.

Chinese students are accusing the university of discrimination. One student said this has caused anger and fear among Chinese students, who feel they are being judged based on their country of origin rather than their achievements.

It’s thought as many as 300 applicants from China have been rejected.

The three main reasons for the scrutiny include the university’s ties to military organizations, scholarships from unclear sources, and involvement in sensitive fields—areas that are often linked to the activities of the Polytechnic Institute.
