During the night of July 16 (starting from 18:00 on July 15), Russian forces launched an attack using eight Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles from the Bryansk region of Russia, four Kh-22/32 cruise missiles from the Black Sea area, one Kh-31P anti-radar missile, five “Banderol” loitering munitions, and 146 Shahed-type attack drones (including jet-powered variants), Gerbera, Italmas, and Parodiya decoy drones from the directions of Kursk, Oryol, Millerovo (Russia), Donetsk (temporarily occupied territory), and Hvardiiske (temporarily occupied territory of Crimea).

The air assault was repelled by Ukrainian aviation, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems units, and mobile firing groups of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

According to preliminary data, as of 09:00, Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed or suppressed three Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles and 129 drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, Italmas, and other types, across northern, southern, central, and eastern regions of Ukraine.

Hits were recorded from five Iskander-M/S-400 ballistic missiles, one Kh-31P anti-radar missile, and 16 attack drones at 15 locations. Debris from downed targets fell at seven locations.

The Kh-22/32 cruise missiles did not reach their targets.
