On the night of August 21 (starting from 18:40 on August 20), the Russian forces launched 614 aerial attacks against Ukraine:
- 574 strike UAVs of the Shahed type and various drone decoys from the directions of Kursk, Bryansk, Millerovo, Oryol, Shatalovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk (Russia), and Hvardiiske (temporarily occupied Crimea);
- 4 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles from the airspace over Russia’s Lipetsk and Voronezh regions;
- 2 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles from Russia’s Voronezh region;
- 19 Kh-101 cruise missiles from Russia’s Saratov region;
- 14 Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea;
- 1 unidentified missile launched from Crimea.
Ukraine’s air defenses — including aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare units, drone systems, and mobile fire groups — repelled the attack.
According to preliminary data as of 09:00, 577 aerial targets were shot down or neutralized:
- 546 Shahed-type drones and drone decoys;
- 1 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal ballistic missile;
- 18 Kh-101 cruise missiles;
- 12 Kalibr cruise missiles.
Missile and drone strikes were recorded at 11 locations, and debris from intercepted targets fell in 3 additional areas.
