Ukraine is calling on states and international organizations to respond decisively to Russia’s attack on civilian vessels in the Black Sea.

This was stated by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha on the social media platform X.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy recalled that Russia attacked a cargo ship belonging to a Turkish company in the Black Sea overnight. Sybiha noted that this occurred immediately after a visit to Russia by a high-level Turkish delegation.

“A clear demonstration that Russia’s words cannot be trusted. Russia remains the main threat to the Black Sea security and prosperity,” the minister emphasized.

He said that Ukraine’s Navy rescued the ship’s crew—citizens of Turkey and India—but as a result of the attack, one crew member, a citizen of Egypt, was killed.

Sybiha added that Russia also attacked two other vessels flying the flags of Palau and Belize, which were damaged, although their crew members were not injured.

“We are informing all states and organisations about this brazen attack on international law and freedom of navigation. It requires strong and principled responses from the international community and the International Maritime Organisation,” the Foreign Minister stressed.
