29-year-old Angelika Terlyuga from Odessa triumphantly performed at the Karate1 Premier League stage (weight category up to 55 kg), which took place in Lisbon (Portugal). The athlete was prepared for the competition by coach Denis Morozov.

In the decisive fight in the category up to 55 kg, the beautiful karate fighter met with the Egyptian Yasmin Attia, winning a convincing victory: 6-0. In the last seconds, the opponent, realising his hopeless situation, just dropped his hands, waiting for the final gong. A snapshot of the decisive confrontation appeared on the athlete’s Instagram page.

We will add that this "gold" became the first for Terlyuga this season. And since the Karate1 Premier League stage in Lisbon was a qualifier for the 2020 Games in Tokyo (karate is included in the Olympic programme for the first time), Odessa will definitely represent our country in the Japanese capital in late July - early August.

Thank you all, my dears, for your greetings, support and joy. Today was a really cool fight. I'm not so much happy with my first place, but how strong I was at this tournament and strong. Here from such performances I receive a thrill. That's how I try to perform all the time.

Angelika commented on her victory at the competition in Portugal. The karateka thanked the coach and the fans.

This victory brought Angelika the 20th medal in the Premier League (the award at the PL tournament in Istanbul, according to updated data, was the 19th). The Odessa karateka, which is the first number in the world rankings in its category, has 11 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals in the tournaments of this series, and in total it has won 34 awards at major international tournaments (6 - European Championship, European Games, 20 - Premier League, 8 - Serie A). Angelika had previously issued a ticket for the Olympic Games after winning the league competition in Dubai.

I am very excited about participating in the Olympic Games. I promise that I will do my best in Nippon Budokan, not just because I want a medal, but because I want to put my name in Karate’s history.
