Russian forces continue shelling the northern border areas, employing various weapons, including fiber-optic-controlled drones.
Vadym Mysnyk, spokesperson for the Siversk Operational-Tactical Group, reported this on TV marathon.
"We have recorded such cases and have shot down these drones. The enemy uses practically everything they have, all their developments. From the north, dozens of drones enter Ukrainian airspace daily, attempting to strike various targets. Our air defense aims to intercept them at the first lines of defense," Mysnyk stated.
He noted that mobile fire teams destroy dozens of drones of different modifications every day, while Ukrainian electronic warfare (EW) systems suppress Russian UAVs.
According to Mysnyk, fiber-optic-controlled drones have a limited operational range, so the Russian forces mainly deploys them in areas with active combat.
Regarding Russian sabotage and reconnaissance groups entering Ukraine from the north, Mysnyk confirmed the presence of special forces operating in such roles.
"They conduct reconnaissance and employ their tactics. However, in the areas where Ukrainian Defense Forces carry out operations in Russia’s Kursk region, the enemy's troop concentration is highest. There, maneuvering near the border, they primarily use small infantry groups of a few soldiers rather than full-fledged SRGs," he explained.
Mysnyk emphasized that Ukraine's Defense Forces strive to detect and eliminate these Russian units before they cross the border.
