Over the past four days, both Russia and Ukraine have experienced extremely intense attacks in their deep rear areas. This is happening due to the desire of both sides to gain an advantage against the backdrop of the relatively static situation on the ground.

This information is from a British Ministry of Defense intelligence report dated September 22.

According to the report, there have been reports of explosions at Russian logistical facilities, airbases, and command posts in Crimea, Krasnodar Krai, and near Moscow in recent days.

It is highly likely that the Russian Black Sea Fleet has once again become the target of serious attacks. However, the explosions at the Chkalovsky airbase near Moscow are likely causing the greatest strategic concern for Russian leaders.

"This is a sensitive location because it hosts specialist military aircraft as well as VIP transport for Russian leaders. Reported damage to a COOT special mission aircraft is particularly relevant: the exact variant involved is unclear, but these valuable assets undertake missions which include electronic intelligence collection," the report states.

Over the past week, Russia has repeatedly carried out long-range strikes on targets throughout Ukraine.

This unusual intensity is likely partially in response to incidents in Russia and Crimea, according to British analysts. At the same time, since ground fighting is relatively static, each side seeks to gain an advantage by striking into the opponent's strategic depth, the Ministry noted.
