The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Galushchenko, held a meeting with the Minister of Natural Resources of Canada, Jonathan Wilkinson, as part of a working trip to Pittsburgh (USA).
During the bilateral meeting, the ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine in view of the continuation of the full-scale military aggression of the Russian Federation.
Herman Galushchenko informed Jonathan Wilkinson that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are repelling the aggressor and recapturing the occupied territories. At the same time, out of desperation, Russia continues targeted attacks on Ukraine's critical infrastructure, including nuclear power plants.
The parties also discussed the need for the fastest possible demilitarization and de-occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, its return to full control of the legitimate Ukrainian operator. Only such steps can guarantee the nuclear security of the world and the energy security of Ukraine and Europe.
The head of the Ministry of Energy also informed his colleague about the preparation of Ukraine for the extremely difficult autumn-winter period and the accumulation of energy carriers for its passage.
Jonathan Wilkinson emphasized that Canada fully supports the struggle of the Ukrainian people against Russia's military aggression and is ready to provide all necessary support in the future. In particular, he testified to the readiness of the Canadian side to support the restoration of the destroyed energy infrastructure.
Herman Galushchenko is on a three-day working visit to the USA. Within its framework, the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, together with the ministers of 30 other countries, will participate in the work of the Global Clean Energy Action Forum. The visit program includes a number of meetings of the head of the Ministry of Energy with colleagues from Australia, Canada, Great Britain, the leadership of the International Energy Agency and the IAEA, and many others.
