Russia is attempting to expand its influence in Latin American countries by disguising it as cultural and educational cooperation.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation under the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

“On July 31, in Havana, the capital of Cuba, a Russian film festival launched, organized with the support of Russian state bodies — Roskino and the Ministry of Culture,” the message states.

During the festival, Cubans will be shown Russian films, most of which promote “traditional values,” meaning they are propagandistic. These films justify the war, glorify the Russian army, and cultivate hatred toward the West.

“Although Russia presents such initiatives as ‘part of cultural dialogue,’ in reality, this is a tool of Kremlin propaganda. Through such actions, the Russian Federation tries to build a circle of support on the international stage and influence political, economic, and military processes,” the Center for Countering Disinformation said.

The center also noted that similar “cultural expansion” by Russia is being promoted in many regions worldwide, including Latin America.
