The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine expressed deep concern over the deterioration in the health of Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili, who has been in the Vivamed Medical Center in Tbilisi since May as a prisoner.
“Given the critical condition of the Ukrainian citizen, we call on the Georgian side to provide him with proper medical care, as well as to satisfy the request for a reprieve of Mikheil Saakashvili’s punishment to transfer him to one of the European or American clinics for further treatment,†the statement says.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reports that Mikheil Saakashvili plans to visit the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada Dmitry Lubinets and calls on the Georgian authorities to grant him access.
"Ukraine will continue to pay special attention to the observance of the legitimate rights and interests of Ukrainian citizens who are on the territory of Georgia, including Ukrainian citizen Mikheil Saakashvili, who must be released," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
- According to an independent examination of the Empathy Center, increased content of barium, bismuth and mercury was found in Saakashvili's body. Since his arrest on October 1, 2021, Saakashvili has lost more than 40 kilograms - independent experts named 20 diagnoses, which together create a threatening picture.
- The Georgian authorities do not recognize Saakashvili's grave condition a year and two months after his arrest. Representatives of the ruling party and the government claim that the ex-president pretends to engage in self-mutilation in order to achieve release.
