On August 28, 2025, during a joint operation by the Active Operations Department of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the special unit “Phantoms” of the Main Intelligence Directorate in the Sea of Azov near occupied Crimea, a small Russian missile ship of Project 21631 “Buyan-M” ― a carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles ― was struck.
The special unit “Phantoms” disabled the ship’s radar system with an aerial drone strike, while the Active Operations Department special forces attacked the hull of the Kalibr missile carrier.
As a result of the strikes, the Russian missile ship, which was within potential Kalibr launch range in the Temryuk Bay, sustained damage and was forced to leave its combat patrol area.
