Ukraine's Defense Forces struck port oil infrastructure in St. Petersburg and hit an important military target in Kronstadt.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced this.
“Last night, our Ukrainian long-range sanctions against Russia for this war took effect near St. Petersburg. Ukraine's Defense Forces struck port oil infrastructure that generates revenue for Russia's war effort, and there were also hits on Kronstadt—an important military target. The distance from Ukraine's state border is more than 850 kilometers,” Zelenskyy said.
The Command of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine added that SOF drones struck an oil terminal in the Port of St. Petersburg.
During the night of July 4, Deep Strike units of the Special Operations Forces, together with the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, the Security Service of Ukraine, and other components of Ukraine's Defense Forces, struck the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal. Several SOF drones successfully reached their targets. A fire is currently burning at the facility.
The St. Petersburg Oil Terminal is one of the key Baltic export hubs for Russian petroleum products. It facilitates tanker shipments to Africa, the Middle East, and other regions. This trade is an important source of funding for the Russian military budget.
According to Astra's OSINT analysis, the fire broke out on the premises of JSC St. Petersburg Oil Terminal.
The facility is located adjacent to the Big Port of St. Petersburg and is used to transfer crude oil and petroleum products between rail, pipeline, and maritime transport.
Before the drone attacks, the 37-hectare St. Petersburg Oil Terminal site contained 21 storage tanks for light and heavy petroleum products. The terminal has an annual handling capacity of 12.5 million tonnes and has been designated by Russia as a strategically important enterprise for national security.
