Poland is experiencing a state of hybrid warfare, said Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk during his speech at the “Poland of the Future” campus in Olsztyn. According to him, the country is facing threats that can be considered elements of hybrid warfare.
Tomczyk emphasized that Poland is in a situation that could be described as hybrid warfare. He noted the tension on the border with Belarus and pointed to incidents involving meteorological balloons found on Polish territory last week. These devices, marked with Cyrillic inscriptions, raised questions about their origin and purpose.
The Deputy Minister questioned Russia’s interest in the weather in Poland, highlighting that such inexpensive devices could be used to destabilize the situation in the country, creating discussions and mistrust among citizens. Tomczyk also pointed to active Russian propaganda aimed at undermining trust in the state.
He also reported that Poland records about five thousand hacking attacks annually, which are countered by 2,500 military personnel. These cyberattacks are part of the hybrid threats the country faces.
Earlier the same day, in response to Russia’s massive airstrike on Ukraine, Polish and allied combat aircraft were scrambled.
Additionally, Polish authorities reported an intrusion of an aerial vehicle, presumably a drone, into Polish airspace. The incident occurred near the town of Hrubieszów in the Lublin Voivodeship, and searches for the suspected downed drone are currently underway.
