The operation of Russia's 'shadow fleet' in the Baltic Sea, which illegally transports Russian oil, should be stopped through intervention at the level of the European Commission.

This was emphasized by the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk, during a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, in Warsaw on Monday.

"These are old, rusty ships. And I will do everything possible to support the Prime Minister (Frederiksen) so that the European Commission stops this fleet. This should be a European decision to halt the operation of this fleet engaged in de facto illegal oil transportation, which threatens the ecological safety of the Baltic Sea," Tusk emphasized.

He added that Warsaw will not leave Copenhagen alone with this problem.

In turn, the Prime Minister of Denmark stressed that both her country and Poland "want to get rid of these Russian ships, regardless of whether they sail under the Russian flag or not, as these are only technical issues."

In her opinion, it would be a good solution to prepare recommendations at the level of the European Commission for EU member states "regarding possible responses to this fleet."

She added that this issue will continue to be discussed.
