JSC Energoatom has called Russia’s threats to stop the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) mission at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) an act of nuclear terrorism.
This was reported by the Joint-Stock Company National Nuclear Energy Generating Company Energoatom on Facebook.
"The Kremlin's threats to halt the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) mission at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant are an act of nuclear terrorism," the company stated.
Russia's Foreign Ministry threatens to halt the IAEA mission at ZNPP over statements made by its Director General Rafael Grossi, who noted that experts would remain at the plant "until a potential freeze in the war."
"We will remain there (at ZNPP) until the conflict transitions into a new phase, at least until hostilities become less intense and a ceasefire is possibly declared," Grossi said.
The Kremlin claims that the IAEA's presence at ZNPP is only possible with its approval.
"It is important to note that the presence of IAEA international experts at the Zaporizhzhia NPP and other Ukrainian nuclear power plants is the result of agreements reached during a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Rafael Grossi. The parties agreed on the presence of IAEA missions at all Ukrainian nuclear facilities to ensure continuous monitoring and prevent potential incidents. Let us stress—at all Ukrainian nuclear facilities, including ZNPP," Energoatom stated.
The company emphasized that Ukraine's initiative is a crucial step in strengthening international trust in the safety of Ukrainian nuclear plants, especially during wartime. Ukraine demonstrates openness and readiness for cooperation, unlike Russia, which continues to act as a nuclear terrorist state, ignoring international laws and regulations.
Energoatom also noted that threats to halt the IAEA mission at ZNPP confirm that the Kremlin has no intention of adhering to any international legal norms. The seizure of ZNPP, deployment of troops and equipment there, shelling of critical infrastructure, and manipulation of energy security are direct evidence of Russia's nuclear terrorism.
"Maintaining the IAEA's mission at ZNPP is a matter of safety not only for Ukraine but also for the world. The international community must ensure continuous monitoring and hold Russia accountable," Energoatom stressed.
