Switzerland and 29 other European countries express concern over deliberate Russian interference with satellite communications and radionavigation, as reported by Swissinfo

Before the meeting of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Council, Switzerland supported a joint declaration urging the organization to take action against Moscow.

The document notes that since 2023, Europe has been facing systematic and targeted disruptions affecting civilian satellite networks across European countries.

The sources of these disruptions were identified in several Russian cities as well as in occupied Crimea.

The declaration’s signatories emphasize that these interferences threaten public safety, as well as the safety of air and maritime navigation.

The situation deteriorated considerably in June, according to these countries. Almost the entire territory of Poland and Lithuania has been affected. Other countries are also affected.

Complaints were lodged with an ITU committee. The states that have associated themselves with the declaration also denounce the fact that no credible response has come from Russia.

The countries signing the declaration expressed regret that the efforts of several international organizations, including the ITU, and some states to establish dialogue with Russia have been ignored or have not led to any changes.
