EU’s Marta Kos: Ukraine’s integration is a strategic investment in Europe’s future

Supporting Ukraine on its path toward EU integration is an investment in Europe’s security and prosperity, and private capital can play a crucial role in the country’s recovery.

This was stated by EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos at the Rebuild Ukraine conference in Warsaw.

“The path to EU membership is not only a beacon of hope for the people of Ukraine, but also a strategic investment in Europe’s prosperity and — increasingly — its security. Everything you do in Ukraine today, or plan to do, contributes to Europe’s well-being and safety,” Kos said, addressing participants of the reconstruction conference.

She welcomed the strong presence of private businesses at the event, expressing hope that they understand the benefits of engaging early, as Ukraine’s eventual integration into the EU will grant it full access to the single market — opening vast opportunities for trade, investment, and innovation.

Kos emphasized that Ukraine’s recovery will be impossible without the involvement of both the European Union and private investors.

“The EU is already Ukraine’s main trading partner and investor. We support reforms that modernize the Ukrainian economy and align it with European standards,” she noted.

She also underlined that Ukraine has become a leader in modern warfare — from drone technology to battlefield logistics — and through this unique experience, contributes to Europe’s collective security.

“Thus, supporting Ukraine on its path toward EU accession is not merely an act of solidarity, but a strategic move to make Europe stronger, safer, and more prosperous,” Kos concluded.
