A photography exhibition titled Documenting Crimea: Cultural Heritage Through Open Knowledge will open at the University of Bayreuth in Germany on October 12, showcasing Crimea's natural landscapes, cultural heritage and the people for whom the peninsula is their historical homeland.
According to the Office of the President of Ukraine in Crimea, the exhibition will feature more than 40 photographs from Wikimedia Commons and private family archives.
The photographs portray Crimea as its residents see and remember it, highlighting its unique natural environment, cultural landmarks, traditions and the lives of Ukraine's indigenous peoples — Crimean Tatars, Karaites and Krymchaks.
The photographs will be accompanied by explanatory texts and additional information prepared by researchers and representatives of the communities.
The exhibition will run until October 27.
It is organised by Mariana Senkiv, PhD in Geography, Associate Professor and DAAD scholarship holder at the University of Bayreuth's Department of Geography, in cooperation with the NGO Wikimedia Ukraine.
