On Friday morning, July 24, Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles struck the AVITEK military plant in the Russian city of Kirov, located approximately 1,200 kilometres from Ukraine’s border.

On the morning of July 24, residents of Kirov reported explosions and a fire.
According to ASTRA’s analysis of footage from local residents, the target of the attack was the JSC Vyatka Machine-Building Enterprise AVITEK, where a fire broke out.
According to official and Russian open sources, the company manufactures military, dual-use and civilian products, including air defence systems, aircraft components, pilot ejection seats, aviation lifting systems and winches, beam holders and other aviation equipment. According to the Russian Union of Machine Builders, the enterprise operates a full production cycle — from casting and forging operations to final assembly and testing of products.
According to the Ukrainian Defence Intelligence project War & Sanctions, the plant specialises in the production of surface-to-air guided missiles, target missiles, pilot rescue ejection seats, aviation lifting systems and winches, among other products.
The enterprise is involved in the production cooperation programme for the Russian “Tor” surface-to-air missile systems.
The “AVITEK” plant is under sanctions imposed by the United States, Ukraine and other countries.
