Western countries still hope for a policy of deterring the Russian Federation. But it's time for them to recognize that there is no policy of containment towards Russia other than Ukraine's victory.
In a comment, Guildhall declared by Georgian parliament member and founder of the parliamentary group 'Euro Optimists,' Khatia Dekanoidze.
"To all my European friends, I pose one question: do they understand that if Ukraine loses, it means Russian soldiers will be on the borders of NATO—on the border with Poland, and later possibly on the border with Germany? I don't think Western countries truly grasp the pain we've experienced in Georgia, Ukraine, and the Baltic countries (referring to the former USSR's occupation and imposition of its policies there). They still believe in the possibility of a policy of containment. Unfortunately, I do not. It's time to admit that there is no policy of containment other than Ukraine's victory. And this is actually very evident," noted the Georgian parliamentarian.
Earlier, the head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Estonian Parliament, Marko Mihkelson, emphasized that Ukraine's victory is crucial in preventing a catastrophe and ensuring peace in the West. According to him, Russia has already suffered a strategic defeat in Northern Europe due to Finland and Sweden joining NATO. Another strategic setback for Russia is the loss of the Black Sea, where Ukraine, with the help of allies, managed to expel the Russian fleet from its base in Sevastopol.
The main task for Western countries is to help Ukraine withstand Russia's aggressive pressure currently underway, and then provide Ukraine with such assistance that ensures its victory—a key to peace and catastrophe prevention in the West.
