Brandenburg Interior Minister Michael Stübgen (CDU) is calling for the introduction of border controls at all EU borders with Hungary. This request comes in response to new measures by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, which extend the issuance of work visas for Russian and Belarusian citizens, as reported by T-Online.
Stübgen stated that European treaties allow for the imposition of border controls in exceptional cases. He suggested that EU countries such as Austria, Croatia, Slovakia, and Romania should implement similar measures as those already applied by Poland and the Czech Republic.
He emphasized that accepting Russians without proper control is unacceptable and could facilitate the unchecked entry of Russian agents into Europe.
Earlier reports indicated that Hungary might become a gateway for Russian intelligence and sabotage groups into the European Union. This suspicion arises from Budapest's decision to include Russians and Belarusians in the "national cards" programme, which allows them to obtain work permits in Hungary for two years with the possibility of extension.
