The Prime Minister stressed that support for Ukraine would not be at the expense of the defense capability of Greece.

The Greek authorities do not intend to transfer S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine for defense against Russian invaders.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stated this.

At a press conference, journalists asked the head of government whether the country was going to prepare S-300 air defense systems for sending to Ukraine. He answered with a resounding "no".

Mitsotakis stressed that support for Ukraine would not be at the expense of the defense capability of Greece itself.

He then referred to an agreement with Germany to supply Ukraine with old Greek BMP-1 armored vehicles in exchange for German Marder 1A3s, saying negotiations were still ongoing.

S-300 complexes are designed to defend large industrial and administrative facilities, military bases, and command posts from enemy aerospace attacks. The air defense system is capable of shooting down ballistic and aerodynamic targets.
