In Kyiv, the Medical Center Orthotics & Prosthetics (MCOP) has officially opened its office. The opening ceremony was attended by Ukraine’s Minister of Social Policy, Family, and Unity Denis Ulyutin and Deputy Minister Inna Solodka.

At the event, a three-year program to support Ukrainian defenders was announced. The Icelandic government, together with the Icelandic company Embla Medical, launched a prosthetics grant initiative totaling $11.6 million, 33% of which is funded by the Icelandic government. Through this program, over a thousand Ukrainians will be able to receive lower-limb prostheses free of charge.

The center provides high-quality functional prosthetics for complex cases, a comprehensive adaptation and gait optimization program, and prostheses tailored to individual patient needs.

“We are grateful to our partners for their contribution to the rehabilitation of our military. The opening of such centers is an important step for the proper recovery and adaptation of people with disabilities to new conditions,” said Denis Ulyutin.

In addition to prosthetics and rehabilitation, MCOP actively supports the development of Ukraine’s prosthetics industry. American specialists have already conducted training for Ukrainian prosthetists and physical rehabilitation experts—over 100 specialists have completed practical workshops.

Currently, the center employs 19 specialists, including 3 veterans who have experienced limb loss and recovery themselves and now help others regain mobility. Once fully staffed, the team will be able to produce up to 65 prostheses per month.
