According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Russian army losses in April included 35,010 personnel—enough to staff nearly three motorized rifle divisions.
To compare, Russian forces suffered 125,970 killed and wounded in the first quarter of 2025 alone.
Over 30 days in April, Ukrainian defenders also destroyed or disabled 1,560 Russian artillery systems—equivalent to approximately 86 artillery battalions. Notably, on April 17 alone, 88 enemy guns were hit. The most successful day for neutralizing Russian artillery remains March 27, 2025, when Ukrainian forces eliminated 122 artillery pieces in just 24 hours. Since the beginning of the year, Russia has lost a total of 5,604 artillery systems, either destroyed or damaged.
In April, Ukraine’s Defense Forces also destroyed or damaged 217 Russian tanks (compared to 272 in March), bringing total Russian tank losses since the start of the year to 1,060. The single worst day for Russian tank losses was October 19, 2023, when 55 tanks were neutralized in 24 hours.
Additionally, Ukrainian forces destroyed or disabled 484 enemy armored fighting vehicles in April.
The Russian army also continues to lose large quantities of military vehicles and tankers for the second month in a row. On April 17 alone, 312 vehicles were lost. Over the entire month, 4,063 Russian military transport vehicles were destroyed or damaged—up from 3,545 in March.
The number of combat engagements also rose in April: 4,647 compared to 4,270 in March. For reference, there were 3,274 recorded engagements in February. Since the start of the year, the total number of clashes has exceeded 17,000.
