Dayana Yastremska became the first Ukrainian tennis player to reach the semifinals of US Open
The Ukrainian in the quarterfinals, together with Max Purcell, defeated in the mixed doubles pair Yaroslava Shvedova from Kazakhstan and Fabrice Martin from France.
The match ended quickly - it took 52 minutes to finish the match in quarterfinal action in New York today. It is their third straight-sets win of the tournament. Yastremskaya and Purcell hit four knockouts and won 3 of 4 break points with only one double fault.
Now in the semifinals, the Ukrainian will meet with the winner of the match Juliana Olmos (Mexico) / Marcelo Arevalo (El Salvador) - Ellen Perez (Australia) / Marcelo Demoliner (Brazil).
Note that Yastremskaya previously made it to the 1/8 finals of the doubles in a duet with Marta Kostyuk.
In the history of Independent Ukraine, Ukrainian tennis players have reached the mixed quarterfinals at the US Open three times. Before that, Nadezhda Kichenok reached the semifinals in 2018, and in 1999 and 2001, Ukrainian Elena Tatarkova managed to do it.
