Over the past year of operation, the Ukrainian Corridor, which ensures global food security, has transported 70 million tons of cargo. A total of 2,577 vessels have departed from Ukrainian ports. The amount of grain cargo was over 46 thousand tons, and other goods totaled over 23 thousand tons.

The primary destinations for Ukrainian goods have been ports in Asia, Africa, Europe, and America. Countries from Egypt to Indonesia, from Tunisia and Libya to India, and from Algeria to China have received Ukrainian grain. Thanks to the humanitarian initiative “Grain from Ukraine,” at least hundreds of thousands of families and millions of people in Ethiopia, Somalia, Yemen, and Sudan have received necessary food supplies.

“Ukraine, despite everything, remains a guarantor of global food security. Each vessel passing through the corridor is not only an economic success but also a symbol of our struggle to uphold international law, which includes guaranteeing freedom of navigation,” said Oleksii Kuleba, Vice Prime Minister for Reconstruction of Ukraine and Minister for Communities and Territories Development.

The Ministry is currently working on expanding the corridor's capabilities.

The temporary maritime route was organized after Russia began blocking vessels passing through the then “grain corridor.” At the initiative of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the “grain corridor” was established with the support of the UN and Turkey to ensure global food security. At that time, Russia was one of the parties to the agreement. Following systematic violations by the aggressor country and the blocking of ships, a decision was made to establish an alternative route, named the Ukrainian Corridor.

It is worth noting that for vessels using the Ukrainian Corridor, there are two main risk insurance tools available to shipowners. The first is a mechanism for insurance provided by leading global insurance companies and banks with the support of the UK Government. This agreement covers risks for “Marine Hull War” and “Loss of Hire War” for ships at levels of 1-1.25% of insurance premiums. These are almost pre-war levels. The second is guarantees for compensation of damage to charterers, operators, and owners of vessels and inland water vessels while such vessels are in Ukraine's territorial waters.
