Chernihiv confectioner Olena Zibert created a gingerbread replica of the library destroyed by Russians, as reported by Suspilne Chernihiv.
To recreate the library in detail, the confectioner studied all available photos of the building on the Internet. Walls made of gingerbread and windows crafted from marmalade. To accurately replicate the color of the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities' facade in its gingerbread copy, the artist blended three paint colors—brown, orange, and garnet.
To maintain proportions, Olena scaled all photos and transferred them to sketches. She noted that it took her approximately three weeks to create this gingerbread house.
She decided to create the replica to cope with difficult memories. Olena began making gingerbread houses as early as 2015. In 2021, Olena emerged victorious at the international Cake International competition, where confectioners from over 50 countries participated.
The Regional Youth Library in Chernihiv suffered damage from Russian shelling in the spring of 2022.
