Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company conceived a digital breakthrough in the field of river transportation.
On November 4, PJSC "Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company" (UDP) and the company "Vodafone Ukraine" signed a memorandum of cooperation in the digitalization of the enterprise. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure.
The document provides for the introduction of online monitoring of the movement of ships, providing facilities with communication on the territory of Ukraine and in roaming, tracking cargo, the state of container capacity and logging statuses. The parties also agreed to use the capabilities of Big Data analytics for the subsequent creation of systems for predicting efficiency and preventing losses.
I am glad to welcome the start of cooperation between UDP and Vodafone Ukraine. Digitalization of UDP is not only an opportunity for a company to automate its business processes, transfer them to a new, higher quality level, but also become one of the leaders in the global market. Plus, when a company goes digital, it gets the attention of investors. The digitalization of State-owned enterprises continues; this corresponds to the implementation of the Digital State project. I am convinced that due to the readiness of the UDP for changes and the experience of Vodafone, the cooperation of these companies will be the beginning of a major breakthrough in the river transport market
Vladislav Krykliy, Minister of Infrastructure
According to the report, the signing of the memorandum took place in an online press conference using Vodafone's Mobile ID technology, which provides electronic identification and the use of electronic signatures.
Thanks to our cooperation with Vodafone Ukraine, we will be able to introduce IoT technologies for river transport and, for the first time, use these solutions for cross-border transport between eight countries. The use of IoT technology and Big Data is an opportunity to find new niches in the transportation market, create the most optimal and efficient models for the movement of the fleet and more efficiently use the company's resources. Therefore, we are very pleased to start this cooperation.
Alexey Khomyakov, Chairman of the board of UDP
PJSC Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company (UDP) was established in 1944 and is one of the largest shipping companies both in Ukraine and in the Danube region.
The unique character of the shipping company is that the UPD having maritime and river fleet at disposal as well as favourable location of the base port of Izmail and also Ukrainian ports of Reni and Ust-Dunaysk conduces to the creation of a transport hub, which promotes the international trade interests of Ukraine in the Danube countries and also in the Black, Azov and Mediterranean Sea countries.
The separate business units are also a part of UDP: these are SBU âKiliya Shipbuilding & Repair Yardâ, SBU âFleet maintenance baseâ, SBU âBackup Crewâ and the Training center of UDP.
UDP is engaged in river cargo transportation along the Danube and sea cargo transportation. The river cargo fleet includes more than 70 self-propelled and over 240 non-self-propelled vessels. The marine cargo fleet is represented by seven vessels with a deadweight of 3.3-4 thousand tons (six dry-cargo vessels of the Izmail type, one tanker Desna).Â
The basis of cargo is metallurgical raw materials supplied to the Danube countries. The river passenger fleet of the company is represented by the motor ships "Moldavia", "Ukraine", "Dnipro" and "Volga". In 2019, the UDP fleet transported 2.7 million tons of cargo, including about 300 thousand tons, by sea vessels.
