The New Ukrainian Wave Film Festival will occur in Kyiv and Lviv on May 19-26. It will show films that shape modern Ukrainian cinema.
The festival will consist of two sections: "Cinema of Our Days" and "People of War". The first is dedicated to social cinema, the drama "Tribe" directed by Myroslav Slaboshpytsky, the lyrical comedy "My Thoughts are Silent" by Antonio Lukich, the social comedy "Hero of My Time" by Tonia Noyabrova and the teenage drama "Stop Zemlia" by Kateryna Gornostai.
The films of the "People of War" section are about the war between Russia and Ukraine: the dramas "Cherkasy" by Timur Yashchenko, "Home" by Nariman Aliyev, "Bad Roads" by Natalia Vorozhbyt and "Atlantis" by Valentyn Vasyanovych.
"During the war, cinemas are in a tough situation, primarily due to constant air alarms, due to which we interrupt the screening of the film and evacuate our guests. And it is possible that war is not the best time for events, but we believe that culture is one of the pillars on which our national identity is based, so the more cultural events, the stronger we become! That's why we decided to organize a film festival to draw attention to the best pictures of the new wave ", - said Tolik Kozlovsky, Marketing Director of "Planet Kino".
The festival was organized by "Planeta Kino" and the Gogol.Media project. It will take place in the network's cinemas in Lviv and Kyiv; screenings will take place on May 19-22 and 26-29. The screenings will start at 18:00, and after watching each film there will be a discussion in the format of an offline podcast. The programme is available by the link.
The films are provided by Arthouse Traffic and FILM.UA Distribution.
