A large pro-European rally took place in Georgia, with tens of thousands of people participating. The event was held on Freedom Square in Tbilisi on October 20, just days before the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 26.
Participants waved European Union and Georgian flags, demonstrating their support for the country’s European course. The protesters carried signs with slogans such as "Georgia chooses the European Union."
The rally was organized by several Georgian non-governmental organizations, including "Georgia's European Orbit" and the "My Vote for the EU" coalition.
Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili had previously announced her intention to support the event. In an address to the public, she expressed confidence that many people would attend the rally and confirmed her participation.
The upcoming elections are expected to be tense. The main competition is anticipated between the ruling party, Georgian Dream, and opposition forces advocating for closer ties with the European Union. According to sociological surveys, more than 30% of voters are ready to support Georgian Dream, while opposition parties could collectively receive about 50-55% of the votes.
