On Tuesday, the application for Russian gas transit through Ukraine increased by 7% compared to the nomination for August 12, according to data from the Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine (GTSOU).
The confirmed nomination volume through the gas measurement station (GMS) 'Sudzha' is 42.4 million cubic meters, up from 39.6 million cubic meters on Monday. This route remains the only way to transport Russian gas through Ukraine to Europe.
Former GTSOU head Serhiy Makogon previously informed Interfax-Ukraine that gas measurement data from GMS 'Sudzha' can be obtained automatically in remote mode. If there is a connection, it is technically possible to confirm physical volumes even without station personnel.
Makogon believes that 'Gazprom' continues to supply gas because it is crucial for them to maintain Ukrainian transit to Europe, which generates $5 billion annually.
He also suggested that 'Gazprom' might declare force majeure if there is physical damage to the equipment at the GMS that prevents measuring gas volumes, but he does not rule out such a decision being made by the Russian side earlier.
On August 12, Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi reported that the Ukrainian forces control approximately 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory and continue their offensive operations in the Kursk region.
