At least 38 killed as Russian attacks hit 9 Ukrainian regions

Russian attacks across Ukraine killed at least 38 people and injured more than 60 others on October 8 and the morning of October 9, with the highest casualties reported in Donetsk region.

In Donetsk region, 35 civilians were killed and 25 injured on October 8, according to regional governor Vadym Filashkin. The deaths included 32 people in Kramatorsk and three in Bilenke. Police recorded 1,538 Russian strikes across the region, affecting eight settlements.

 

 

In Zaporizhzhia, Russian guided aerial bombs struck civilian infrastructure between 04:50 and 05:59 on October 9, killing a 48-year-old man and injuring nine people, including a 14-year-old girl. Apartment buildings, an extracurricular education centre and vehicles were damaged. Prosecutors have opened a war crimes investigation.

 

 

In Sumy region, Russian forces carried out nearly 40 strikes on 21 settlements in 12 communities. A 34-year-old man was killed in the Sumy community, while 14 people were injured across the region, including two 12-year-old boys. Residential buildings, shops and civilian infrastructure were damaged.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, Russian forces launched more than 30 attacks across five districts using drones and aerial bombs. A 24-year-old woman was injured in Nikopol district and hospitalised in moderate condition. Fires broke out in Kryvyi Rih and Pavlohrad districts, while homes, vehicles and an administrative building were damaged elsewhere.

In Kherson region, four people, including a child, were injured in Russian air strikes, drone attacks and artillery shelling. Twelve private homes, gas pipelines and vehicles were damaged across the region.

In Mykolaiv region, three people were injured, including a three-month-old baby and a one-year-old child, after a Russian Molniya drone struck Novokyivka. Both children received medical assistance and are in satisfactory condition. In Lymany, an FPV drone struck a passenger bus, injuring a 66-year-old man and damaging the vehicle.

Kharkiv region also came under repeated attacks. Three people were injured in strikes on 17 settlements on October 8, including two men in Zolochiv and a 72-year-old woman in Khotimlia. On the morning of October 9, another Russian attack on the outskirts of Kharkiv injured three women. Homes, shops, vehicles and electricity infrastructure were damaged.

In Kyiv region, a Russian strike on warehouses in Bucha district injured three people. One was hospitalised, while two received treatment at the scene. Rescue workers were searching for a woman believed to be trapped under the rubble. The resulting fire was contained.

 

 

In Odessa, Russian forces attacked infrastructure overnight, with the blast wave damaging the façade and windows of an apartment building. No casualties were reported, and municipal workers cleared debris and temporarily secured the damaged openings.

The casualty figures remain preliminary as emergency services continue responding to attacks in several regions.

In Ivano-Frankivsk, one person was reportedly killed in a Russian attack, according to preliminary information. A building caught fire, while dry grass and shrubs also burned in an open area. Emergency crews extinguished the fires.

In Chernihiv, a Russian drone struck a shopping centre, causing a fire inside the building. According to the State Emergency Service, 65 firefighters and 21 emergency vehicles were deployed to extinguish the blaze. The fire was brought under control, and no casualties were reported, according to preliminary information.
