Ukrainian authorities have identified a potential risk of covertly placed technical devices that could enhance the communications and navigation of Shahed kamikaze drones.

According to Serhii “Flash,” who reported the threat on his Telegram channel, the Russian side may be attempting to install relay equipment in private homes, with elderly or socially vulnerable residents as likely targets. Strangers may request to place small boxes in yards or inside houses, asking for connections to the electricity supply and, if possible, the internet. These devices could then be used to improve the effectiveness of drone strikes.

“Ukrainians should warn their parents, relatives, and neighbors—especially the elderly—about these risks,” Serhii wrote.

He urged anyone approached with requests to install technical equipment to report immediately to law enforcement or relevant authorities.

Security experts have highlighted that such tactics are part of hybrid operations, where the human factor and public unawareness are exploited. These attempts are often disguised as ordinary or technical tasks and do not require the direct involvement of military personnel, making public awareness a key tool in preventing potential threats to civilian infrastructure and safety.
