The Azerbaijani oil company SOCAR has announced the start of natural gas supplies to Germany and Austria.
This was reported on the company’s website.
Azerbaijani gas is now being delivered to Germany and Austria via the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline, which runs from the Greek-Turkish border through Greece, Albania, and Italy.
SOCAR noted that, thanks to the new supplies, the number of countries importing Azerbaijani gas has increased to 16.
Demand for Azerbaijani gas has risen amid European countries’ efforts to reduce dependence on energy supplies from Russia.
In June, SOCAR signed a ten-year contract with the German energy group Sefe. The parties agreed on the supply of 1.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year.
