Ukraine has sunk five Russian military ships in the last five weeks, continuing to restrict the maneuverability of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom on Twitter.
According to the summary, on March 5, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine announced that they attacked and sunk the Russian patrol ship "Sergey Kotov" near the Kerch Strait in the eastern part of the Black Sea.
The Main Intelligence Directorate reported that during the attack on the "Sergey Kotov" ship, Magura V5 unmanned surface vessels were used. Drones of the same type were used in the attack on the Russian landing ship "Ceasar Kunikov" on February 14, 2024.
According to British intelligence, "Sergey Kotov" joined the Black Sea Fleet only in July 2022. Previously, it had been attacked by UAVs in July and September 2023, sustaining minor damage and returning to service shortly after both incidents.
"This is the third Russian Black Sea Fleet vessel sunk in the pat five weeks. Likely because of Black Sea Fleet losses, on 15 February 2024, the Black Sea Fleet Commander, Admiral Viktor Sokolov, was dismissed. Ukraine continues to limit the freedom of manoeuvre of the Russian Nave in the Black Sea," the British Ministry of Defense noted.
