Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova has convened a meeting of the Consultative Council on National Security (CCNS) for Wednesday, October 7, following drone attacks on two commercial vessels in the country’s exclusive economic zone. This was reported by Novinite.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the president’s residence.
The Security Council meeting will focus on “Current Risks and Threats to Bulgaria’s Maritime Security and Critical Infrastructure in the Context of the War in Ukraine.”
Iotova’s decision followed drone attacks on two commercial vessels within Bulgaria’s exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea on Tuesday, October 6.
One of the vessels sank, while all 18 crew members from the other vessel were rescued, two of them with serious injuries.
The fate of the crew of the sunken vessel remains unknown.
The CCNS includes the president, speaker of parliament, prime minister, ministers of defence, interior, foreign affairs and finance, the heads of the State Agency for National Security and the State Intelligence Agency, the chief of the General Staff, the secretary of the Security Council and representatives of parliamentary groups.
