Russian forces are spreading false information claiming that the Ukrainian authorities are allegedly preparing to use chemical and biological weapons to contaminate water bodies in the Kherson region. This was reported by the Center for Counteracting Disinformation.

It was noted that the "contamination of water bodies" was mentioned by the self-proclaimed governor of Kherson region, Volodymyr Saldo.

"The so-called 'governor of Kherson region,' Volodymyr Saldo, told Russian propagandists a lie that the Ukrainian authorities are preparing to use chemical and biological weapons to contaminate the water bodies of Kherson region," the CDC stated.

The material explains that Russia is trying to discredit the Ukrainian government in occupied territories. At the same time, the aim of the Russian statements about the possible use of chemical or biological weapons is to incite panic among civilians.

"Accusations against Ukraine of preparing to use prohibited types of weapons are often used by Russians to distract attention from their own crimes or as an informational cover for preparing provocations," the CDC emphasizes.

The report highlights that the enemy has previously spread information about the alleged contamination of water in the Kherson region. Similar statements have been refuted by local government representatives.
