The civilian airport in Crimea is being converted into a military facility, from which drones will likely be launched at mainland Ukraine, report Skhemy.

Currently, large-scale works are underway at the airport. According to satellite images, new fortifications and camouflage structures have appeared around the runway.

“Most likely, this is a technical base intended for the assembly, storage, and launching of UAVs. The camouflage structures are suitable for sheltering equipment, drone assembly areas, as well as for air defense missile systems like the Pantsir-S1 or Tor-M2 to protect the facility,” explained aviation expert Anatoliy Khrapchynskyi.

Air defense system sites have already appeared at the airport, and the runway length is sufficient for drone launches.

The change of status of Kerch airport to a military one is also confirmed by Russian state registry data – on March 4, 2025, the occupying authorities transferred part of the airport territory for indefinite use to the Russian Ministry of Defense.
