In the Mykhailivka community of the Zaporizhzhia region, construction is set to begin on the eighth underground school in the area.
This was announced on Facebook by the head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Administration, Ivan Fedorov.
"The Ukrainian government has allocated nearly 17 million hryvnias for the eighth underground school in the Zaporizhzhia region. We will start construction in the Mykhailivka community in the coming days," he noted.
According to Fedorov, the underground school will accommodate 200 students, who will attend classes in two shifts.
He also mentioned that the first underground school in Zaporizhzhia is expected to open its doors this autumn.
Looking ahead, Fedorov outlined ambitious plans for 2025, with the construction of five additional underground educational facilities for over 4,000 students. Currently, a tender is underway for three of these schools, while project documentation is being developed for the remaining two.
The aim in the Zaporizhzhia region is to provide safe educational environments for 60,000 children.
