DRI, the EU renewables division of Ukraine’s DTEK Group, has chosen Fluence Energy B.V., a subsidiary of global energy storage leader Fluence Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLNC), to supply battery storage units for its 133 MW Trzebinia project in southern Poland.

Trzebinia is the first energy storage project in Poland executed by Fluence and DRI. Fluence has invested heavily into its Polish operations since 2022 and is working to expand further in the Polish energy storage market. For DTEK and DRI, the project continues the Ukrainian-American partnership to strengthen energy security for Europe as a whole and for Ukraine in particular.

The 622 MWh project will deploy Fluence’s Smartstack platform, a modular, high-density system designed for rapid deployment, optimized long-term performance, and advanced cybersecurity. Only components from trusted countries are used, strengthening Poland’s grid against cyberattacks. According to Spain’s Industrial Cybersecurity Centre, Poland was the world’s most targeted country for politically and socially motivated cyberattacks in Q1 2025, including attacks on critical infrastructure such as power grids.

This marks the first energy storage project in Poland executed jointly by Fluence and DRI. The partnership follows the recent energization of a 200 MW DTEK project across six Ukrainian sites, aimed at enhancing energy resilience ahead of winter amid ongoing Russian attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure.

Murat Cinar, CEO of DRI, said:

“We are confident that the Trzebinia BESS project will contribute to Poland’s energy transition, enhance the integration of renewables into the grid, and strengthen energy independence for Poland and the European Union. This project is another step in building our portfolio of solar, wind, and energy storage projects across fast-growing European markets, including Poland, Croatia, Italy, and Romania.”

Julian Jansen, Managing Director of Growing Markets at Fluence, added:

“Poland has the potential to be one of the five largest European energy storage markets by 2030. We look forward to further investment in our Polish operations and team, supporting grid resilience and energy security across Central and Eastern Europe.”

According to S&P Global, Poland’s installed energy storage capacity is projected to increase from just 25 MWh at the end of 2024 to over 20 GWh by 2030, helping the country achieve a renewable energy share of more than 50% in its electricity mix by decade’s end.
