Ukrainian tennis players Elina Svitolina, Dayana Yastremska, and Marta Kostyuk have successfully started their campaign in the main draw of the 2024 Australian Open.
Svitolina won against Australian wildcard entrant Tayla Preston with a score of 6-2, 6-2 in just an hour. Her next opponent will be Victoria Tomova from Bulgaria.
Yastremska defeated the defending Wimbledon champion, Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic, with a dominating score of 6-1, 6-2. The match lasted 75 minutes, during which the Ukrainian hit 26 winners compared to her opponent's 5. This victory marked Yastremska's first appearance in the second round of a Grand Slam since the 2020 US Open.
Kostyuk secured her place in the second round by defeating American player Claire Liu in three sets with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Her next opponent will be Elise Mertens, whom she previously faced in March 2022 at the WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells, where Kostyuk was defeated.
