The European Business Association (EBA) has reached out to government leaders, requesting their urgent support for the draft law on exemption from import duties for wind energy generating installations. This was reported by the association’s press service.

“At the end of July, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine registered the draft Law on Amendments to the Customs Code of Ukraine Regarding the Promotion of the Restoration of Ukraine's Alternative Energy Infrastructure No. 11455,” the EBA reminded.

The association supports this draft law, which will reduce the cost of wind energy generating installations, increase the availability of such goods, and contribute to the faster restoration and expansion of wind energy capacities.

According to business representatives, wind power stations, due to their specific nature and construction technology, are decentralized objects of the energy sector. The distance between wind turbines at a single station typically ranges from 800 meters, making these stations more complex and expensive targets for enemy attacks. Damage to a single wind turbine can result in a loss of up to 8 MW of power, while damage to a single thermal power station often means a loss of 200 MW of power.

“Thus, scaling up wind energy in Ukraine will reduce dependence on traditional energy sources, which are more vulnerable to external attacks, and contribute to stabilizing energy supply in the country,” noted the press service.

Furthermore, it was emphasized that the construction of wind power stations aligns with the country’s strategy to develop a decentralized energy system based on renewable energy sources and supports Ukraine’s commitments to the European Union regarding green transition and decarbonization goals.

“The business community appeals to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Energy and Housing and Utilities Andriy Herus, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Taxation, and Customs Policy Daniil Hetmantsev, and Finance Minister Serhiy Marchenko to urgently support this draft law,” the EBA stressed.
