Container cargo volumes for the first seven months of 2025 decreased by 16% compared to the same period in 2024, totaling 134,510 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units).
This was reported by Valeriy Tkachev, Deputy Director of the Transport Technology and Commercial Operations Department of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, on Facebook.
The structure of shipments by type/direction:
- Export — 82,439 TEU (61%)
- Import — 36,232 TEU (27%)
- Domestic — 15,839 TEU (12%)
- Transit — 0 TEU (0%)
The main cargo types for the first seven months of 2025 were distributed as follows:
- Grain — 36,374 TEU, or 27% (down 11% compared to the same period in 2024)
- Ferrous metals — 27,988 TEU, or 21% (up 5%)
- Oilcake — 13,829 TEU, or 10% (up 2%)
- Oil — 10,486 TEU, or 8% (up 1%)
- Synthetic resins — 6,375 TEU, or 5% (up 1%)
Valeriy Tkachev also noted key trends in intermodal transportation across Ukraine during the first seven months of 2025.
“There has been a significant decline in grain container shipments. The overall share of grain cargo in containers fell by 11% — down to 27%. In the last two months (June–July 2025), the volume of ferrous metal container shipments exceeded that of grain, making ferrous metals the top cargo in container transport,” he explained.
