Test cotton plantations were planted in Odessa in the spring of this year across 8 farms and one research plot of the Ukrainian Institute of Plant Variety Examination. These are small plots ranging from 0.2 to 0.5 hectares. This was reported by Ukraine's Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Vitalii Koval.
According to him, farmers received 110 kg of cotton seeds, which were sown over an area of more than 5 hectares. A total of five varieties of cotton were imported to Ukraine: two from the USA, two from Germany, and one from Turkey.
“Cotton is a crop used for producing gunpowder. During wartime, such raw materials are extremely important for Ukraine. In addition, cotton can also be used to produce fabric and oil. Next year, we expect to increase the planting area to 30,000 hectares. For farmers who take on this task, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy plans to launch relevant financing programs,” noted Vitalii Koval.
It should be recalled that in April 2024, the Verkhovna Rada supported a law to simplify the registration of cotton.
